Freshman Admission

Criteria such as academics, personal record, class rank, activities and aptitude test scores are also important factors in evaluating your application.

Candidates should be graduates of an accredited high school or preparatory school. The GED (General Education Development) Certificate is also acceptable.

Wingate is on the rolling admissions system but recommends that students submit their applications for admission by April 1 to ensure space availability.

Advanced placement is available if the student presents test scores of 3, 4 or 5 on A.P. or 50 points or higher on C.L.E.P. tests. Credit is also granted for scores of 5, 6 or 7 on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Exams.

College work can be transferred to Wingate after an evaluation of all official college transcripts has been reviewed.

An official high school transcript or GED must be sent to the Admissions office. * All home school transcripts must be notarized. It is recommended that all entering students should have satisfactorily completed 13 academic units in high school including:
  • four units of English
  • three units of mathematics (including, at least, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry)
  • two units of natural sciences (including one lab science)
  • two units of history and social sciences
  • two units of foreign language.

Official SAT 1 or ACT scores must be sent to the Admissions Office. The Wingate Code Number for the SAT I is 5908 and for the ACT is 3176. SAT I or ACT scores are not required if the student has been out of high school for at least five years.

Students may submit resumes, letter of recommendations or essays to the Wingate admissions office.

Upon receipt of a favorable decision, a deposit of $300 (residential) or $200 (commuting) should be remitted to assure a reservation in the freshman class. These fees are refundable until May 1.

 

Transfer Students

Each year Wingate welcomes students who have attended other colleges or universities. It is expected that such students will be in good academic and personal standing at the college last attended, verified by the Confidential Inquiry Form supplied by Wingate (see #5).

To be admitted to Wingate, a transfer student should have a minimum transfer GPA of 2.0 (out of possible 4.0). Wingate will transfer courses from regionally accredited institutions of higher education for which a grade of C or higher was received, provided such courses are applicable to the Wingate University curriculum.

In order to receive transfer credit for courses completed before matriculating at Wingate, a final, official transcript must be received. When all necessary support documents arrive at Wingate, the Admissions Office will inform you of the action taken and provide a transfer credit evaluation.

International Students

International students should provide a certified English translation of his/her secondary school transcripts, official transcripts of any college-level work, GCSE leaving certificates and acceptable TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or SAT I scores. A TOEFL score of 550 (79 - 80 internet based) or higher is generally required for admissions.

After acceptance, a $300 deposit and verification of financial support are required before an I-20 for a student visa can be issued.

A transcript of credits completed, or in progress, from high school and each college attended.

The SAT 1, ACT or TOEFL scores must be sent to the Admissions Office. The Wingate Code Number for the SAT I and TOEFL is 5908. The Wingate University Code Number for the ACT is 3176.

If you have attended other colleges since leaving Wingate, you should request the registrar of each college attended to send an official transcript of your work to the Admissions Office at Wingate. Your application cannot be acted upon until all such transcripts are received by the Wingate Admissions Office.

You will need to have the most current college/university fill out a Confidential Inquiry Form for transfer students. This form serves as a reference and will be sent to you as soon as we receive your application. Again, your application cannot be acted on until this document is received by the Wingate Admissions Office.

If five or more years have passed since your last enrollment at Wingate, high school and college transcripts are required to complete your application.

A student who desires, following withdrawal from college, to return to Wingate University and complete the requirements for a degree must meet the requirements for graduation at the time of re-entry.

If you currently have a balance with Wingate University, please contact the business office immediately. Re-admission cannot be processed until all outstanding balances have been paid in full.
