Wingate University
Founded in 1896, Wingate University is a private, four-year
comprehensive university with a liberal arts core curriculum
offering 40 undergraduate majors in arts and sciences, business,
education, fine arts, music and sport sciences. Students also
can earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, Doctor of Education,
Master of Physician Assistant Studies or pursue pre-professional
programs in pharmacy, veterinary science, medicine, law,
ministry and more.
The School of Graduate and Adult Education in Matthews offers
convenient evening programs to complete a bachelor’s
degree or earn a master’s degree in business, education or sport
administration.
The ideal size of Wingate University (2,129 students) provides a
supportive environment with small classes and personal attention
from professors who know their students by name. A majority of
students live on campus in dorms and fully-equipped apartments
which add to the community atmosphere.
Wingate brings education to life as students explore their faith
and serve the community through 52 student-run clubs and
organizations. Students also gain real life experience through
internship opportunities and research partnerships. Many
upperclassmen take advantage of study-abroad programs at little
additional cost.
Athletics is also an important part of the Wingate experience.
One-third of Wingate students compete in 17 NCAA Division II
intercollegiate sports and even more participate in an extensive
intramural program.
Finally, Wingate University believes that no student should be
denied an education because of expenses. To bring the Wingate
experience within a family’s budget, the university awards
scholarships based on academic merit, athletics, music, church
and community
involvement. Scholarships for transfer students are also available as
well as variety of federal grants and loans.
