Hannah Covington McGee Theatre
McGee Theatre is the main hall of the George A. Batte Jr. Fine Arts
Center
and seats 554 people. This beautiful space contains a Broadway
size stage
and an orchestra pit with a removable cover to allow for large scale
musicals
and operas and a sprung wood floor for dance. McGee Theatre is
equipped
with lighting, sound, and rigging systems of the newest technologies to
make
possible most types of productions. Adjacent to the stage are two
chorus
dressing rooms, two star dressing rooms, and a scene
shop.
Plyler-Griffin Recital Hall
The much smaller Plyler-Griffin Recital Hall provides for a more intimate atmosphere
than the
larger McGee Theatre; the Recital Hall seats 175 people. A new
Steinway
concert grand piano as well as compact disk and digital audio recording
equipment
are kept in the hall for music performances. For multimedia
presentations, a
complete state-of-the-art audio/video system is in place including a
computer,
inputs for a laptop system, CD audio playback, VHS video, and DVD
video.
All controls for these components are wireless. The Recital Hall
shares access
to the dressing rooms backstage areas of McGee Theatre.
C. Douglas Helms Art Gallery
The C. Douglas Helms gallery showcases works by local artists,
students, faculty,
and by nationally and internationally touring shows. When a show
such as these is
not occupying the room, pieces from the Wingate University permanent
collection
are on display. When space is available, Helms Gallery's easy access to
both
McGee
Theatre and the Recital Hall lends itself to being the perfect setting
for
receptions
before or after an event.
Anne R. Belk Music Center
Located on the south end of the Batte Fine Arts Center, the Belk Music
Center
houses Wingate University's Department of Music. Resources for
students and
faculty include a music library, classrooms, practice rooms, studios,
an electronic
piano lab, ensemble rehearsal rooms, and music technology labs with
many high-
end pieces of equipment for recording and mixing.
