A Letter from the Dean
Dear Student,
Welcome to Wingate University - the first step in a new and exciting
adventure of learning, growth, challenge and change!
As you review our website and admissions material, look closely at our
approach to community-based learning: learning that is shared in all
aspects of campus life. From the classroom to the quad, Wingate is
purposeful in developing opportunities to help students learn and expand
their perspectives.
The university sees the student as an integral part of the educational
community, someone present to give and receive knowledge as a partner in
the learning process. Each member of our community makes a distinct
contribution through shared scholarship, leadership, service, and other
campus life opportunities. Active and engaged learning, what we call
“doing your education,” is a hallmark of the Wingate community. As a
Wingate student, you are encouraged and expected to offer the unique
blend of characteristics that you bring - knowledge, talents, curiosity,
and ambition – to enhance our community of scholars.
Staff and faculty are eagerly preparing for your arrival. The structures
stand ready: the residence halls, the pool, the library, the student
center, and the classrooms. Still, these facilities provide but a
context for the core of what truly awaits – the activities, the courses,
the initiatives, the relationships, the memories. Our number one
priority is to create a strong and vibrant learning environment for you
and others who will join you on this journey of discovery and purpose.
Come to Wingate. Stake your claim on the tradition and shared learning
experience that “doing your education” involves. You will find your
place here.
Sincerely,
Doug Searcy
Dean of Student Affairs
