Baccalaureate services at Wingate University

Wingate, NC – Wingate University will hold Baccalaureate services for the Class of 2011 on April 26 at 11 a.m. Services will be held in the George A. Batte, Jr. Fine Arts Center on campus.

Dr. Jim McCoy, pastor of First Baptist Church in Weaverville, N.C., and former Wingate campus minister. McCoy served as campus minister from 1979 – 1991. During that time, he assisted in the formation of UCAN, the student-led service organization, and he served as the first clergy coordinator of Union County Hospice. He and his wife Jane, who taught on Wingate’s music faculty, have two daughters: Claire, a graduating senior at Wingate University and Sarah, a sophomore at Mars Hill College.

McCoy serves as a chaplain to the Weaverville Police Department. He is an endorser of the Ekklesia Project and is an active participant in Christians for the United Community, which addresses racial reconciliation. McCoy’s Baccalaureate message is entitled “The Minority Report.”
