Book Drive to Benefit Wingate Elementary School
9/13/2011
Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University will begin collecting books for
Santa’s Book Drive during Family Weekend at the Bulldogs vs. Brevard football game on Sept. 24. New books and money donations will be collected at the entrance of the Irwin Belk Stadium before kickoff until the second half. A second collection will take place at the Oct. 1 football game against Carson Newman. The books will be donated to Wingate Elementary School students.
“Santa's Book Drive is a great way for the Wingate community to work together to bring a smile to the faces of young readers, said Lauren Schroeder, director of community service initiatives at Wingate University. “Our hope is the students will get excited about reading if they see college students excited about reading.”
Wingate’s Office of Service houses service learning initiatives and
UCAN (University Community Assistance Network). The University has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for three years in a row. Last year, Wingate students volunteered nearly 16,000 hours.
