Wingate, N.C. –The Still Life, Portrait and Landscape, Wingate’s permanent collection of art has been collected over the past forty years. “A myriad of styles make up our impressive collection,” said Charlene Bregier, gallery director. “We are excited to highlight this incredible exhibit with renowned artist Andrew Wyeth’s granddaughter, Victoria Wyeth." She will be the guest speaker on Monday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. in McGee Theatre of the Batte Center on campus. Wyeth was also the featured speaker at the 2012 International Art Fair.
The art exhibit, which includes work by artists Nicola Simbari, Dale Chihuly, Ben Long and Ben Owen, is on display from Aug. 20 - Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. A reception will be held in the gallery following Wyeth’s lecture. The lecture, reception and exhibit are all free.
“The public is invited to join us to hear the history of the painters and illustrators in Wyeth’s family including Jamie Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth and great grandfather N.C. Wyeth," said Louise Napier, professor of art and education. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to see an international collection of art encompassing Vietnamese, Italian, British and Asian art.”
