Wingate University announces Commencement speaker

Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University President Jerry E. McGee has announced former NFL kicker John Kasay will be the Commencement speaker at graduation exercises on Saturday, May 11 at 9 a.m. in the Academic Quadrangle on campus. This year marks the University’s 117th Commencement ceremony.

Kasay, 43, is one of the original members of the Carolina Panthers and is the team’s all-time points leader. At one time he held the NFL record for most field goals in a single season.

Nicknamed J.D., Kasay played for the Panthers for 16 seasons before being released in 2011, then spent two years with the New Orleans Saints before becoming a free agent. As of 2011, Kasay was the longest playing active player in the NFL.

Kasay graduated from the University of Georgia in 1991 with a degree in Journalism. He and his wife Laura live in Charlotte and have four children.
