Wingate University dedicates Byrum Residence Hall

Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University opened a new residence hall to house students during the spring semester to accommodate last fall's record-breaking student enrollment. In a recent dedication ceremony, the University honored a major contributor to the hall by naming it after Porter Byrum.

Byrum, a retired Charlotte attorney and businessman, is known for his philanthropic generosity. He has a strong relationship with Wingate University and currently serves on the Board of Trustees.

The residence hall is the second major building to open this year on the Wingate campus. It is located across the street from the Levine College of Health Sciences, which will open to students in August. Byrum Residence Hall is a three-story building housing 96 students. Each eight-person suite includes four rooms and bathrooms. The common area have couches, end tables, dining room table, bar stools and a kitchen. The bedrooms include a bunk bed, desk and wardrobe.

Wingate University is one of only three universities in the state with a four-year residential requirement. Over 85 percent of the students live on campus.
