Wingate University gets campus in shape to host The MET-Rx World's Strongest Man 2011

Wingate, N.C. - Wingate University is getting its campus facilities in shape to host The MET-Rx World’s Strongest Man 2011 next month. Thirty-two competitors from across the globe will arrive for qualifying events Sept. 15 and 18 and for two days of finals Sept. 21 and 22. Wingate is the first university to host The MET-Rx World’s Strongest Man competition, which is produced and distributed by IMG Media.

Tickets are not required to watch the filming of the competitions and free parking is available at designated areas on campus. No overnight parking is allowed.

Events will take place all day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Sept. 15 qualifiers will feature a loading race and keg toss on the sand volleyball court at Wingate University's Jefferson Clubhouse. After traveling to the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Sept. 16 and Rockingham race track Sept. 17 contestants return to Wingate on Sept. 18 for the last day of qualifying events where they will compete in the dumbbell press, metal block press and atlas stones in front of the Stegall Administration Building.

Final competitions begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 at Wingate University's Levine College of Health Sciences and will feature the steel frame carry, the tyre yoke and truck pull. Competition wraps up Sept. 22 at the Wingate Amphitheatre with the deadlift for max, overhead lift for max, the atlas stones finals and prize presentations.

The six-hour program will air in the U.S. on ESPN in December and internationally on ESPN2 in 2012.
