Wingate University honors alum with Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Wingate, NC – Wingate University recently recognized John Welch at the 27th Annual Alumni Recognition Breakfast. The Alumni Breakfast held on Nov. 5 was part of the University’s Homecoming celebration.

Welch, a 2001 graduate of Wingate University, received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, which honors the alumni who have grown professionally and personally in a short period after graduation and who have made a significant impact on his or her community. He is Head Equipment Manager for Appalachian State Athletics. Welch is the youngest elected member of the Watauga County Board of Education and District 7 representative for the N.C. School Boards Association Legislation Committee.

He is co-founder of the Pioneer Prom Boutique which provides free prom dresses to under privileged so they can share in the experience of prom with their classmates. He is a member of the Bulldog Board of Directors and previously served on the Wingate University Sport Management Advisory Board.
