Wingate, NC – Students at Wingate University recently celebrated cultures around the world during International Week. The event presented opportunities to learn about other countries through a variety of educational activities that culminated with an outdoor festival.

Students kicked off the week with a shoe collection for Soles4Souls, a charity that collects shoes and distributes them to people in need around the world.

They also discussed the revolution in the Middle East with Dr. Nahiba Jerad, a professor in Tunisia and Fulbright scholar, who talked about contemporary Tunisia and the impact of social media on the Tunisian revolution.

Students enjoyed a taste of other cultures as they sampled cuisines from Polynesia, South Africa, Thailand, Brazil and India. Each day featured a different language spoken in the cafeteria, including Spanish, German and French.

The University currently serves 70 international students and offers semester abroad programs as well as ten-day W’International study/travel experiences during their junior year. Wingate graduates, through coursework and international travel study, learn to understand and appreciate contemporary life in a global society.
