Wingate University welcomes back alumni for Homecoming Nov. 4-6
Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University welcomes alumni back to campus for homecoming events the weekend of Nov. 4-6 to reunite with former classmates and friends. Alumni reunions are planned this year for graduates from the classes of 1961, 1971, 1981, 1986 1991, 2001 and 2006.

Homecoming weekend is packed full of events for alumni, students and their families to enjoy. Friday will feature the 36th Annual Bill Connell Memorial Golf Tournament at Eagle Chase Golf Course. The First Annual Clam Bake will start at 5 p.m. at the Wingate University campus lake followed by a 7 p.m. volleyball game in Cuddy Arena as the Wingate Bulldogs host Anderson College. The annual homecoming bonfire pep rally will be held at 9 p.m. in the field behind LaVerne Dining Hall.

Saturday starts off with the alumni breakfast and class reunion celebration at 8:30 a.m. where the University will honor distinguished alumni Dr. James Cauble, O.J. Sikes, III, William Crouch, Jerri Haigler and John Welch. Honorary distinguished alumni also will be honored including Dr. G. Byrns Coleman and Roland Bibeau of Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews.

The annual homecoming parade follows the breakfast at 11 a.m. starting at the Dickson-Palmer Student Center.

Alumni will begin tailgating at 11:30 a.m. before the Wingate Bulldogs kick off the football game hosting North Greenville at 1:30 p.m. Alumni are invited to a barbeque lunch in the tent inside the stadium starting at noon.

Several other athletic events are planned that day including Wingate volleyball against Newberry at 5 p.m., a lacrosse alumni game at the soccer stadium at 6 p.m. and a baseball alumni reunion at Ron Christopher stadium at 6 p.m.

The weekend wraps up Sunday with a worship service at Wingate Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. and an alumni lacrosse banquet at 1 p.m. at the Jesse Helms Center. For more information please contact Judy Davis at or 704- 233-8114. For information online visit
