Alum spearheads holiday Elf Run
12/12/2012
Beverly Little ’90 teaches AIG reading and math to fourth and fifth graders at New Salem Elementary School. She also oversees New Salem Roadrunners, a health and fitness club for kids in grades K-5. The club participates in various 1-mile and 5K charity walks/runs throughout the year, including Wingate University’s Homecoming 5K. They also learn about fitness and nutrition.
For the sixth year in a row, the New Salem Roadrunners organized the Elf Run, including a one-mile Jingle Jog, as a service-learning opportunity. The students man the stations, fill and distribute treat bags and help hand out elf cookies. CMC-Union partners with the group to provide health screenings for the community during the event. Race participants bring a toy to donate as their admission to the race. Toys are distributed to needy families in the local community.
Little also teaches online for North Central University and has taught math methods and gifted curriculum as an adjunct professor in Wingate University’s education program. After graduating from Wingate, she received two master’s degrees and a doctoral degree.
