Larry Coleman
2/21/2013
Larry Coleman is doing what he loves to do…teach. “I have a teacher’s heart and that’s why I am here,” he said. “I learn something new from my students every day.” Coleman works as an assistant professor of communication. For many years, he worked as the director of theatre until taking on his role as a professor three years ago.
Now in his 25th year of teaching at Wingate University, he said he always knew he wanted to teach and that the students are his favorite part. He sees great value in the small size of Wingate’s student body and the opportunity to get to know students by name.
Originally from Springfield, Tenn, he is one of six children. His college years were spent in Alabama with undergraduate work at Southeastern Bible College and he received a master’s degree in theatre arts at the University of Montevallo. His brother, Byrns Coleman recently retired from Wingate after fifty years of teaching.
Coleman’s advice to students is “to always be yourself.”
