Careers & InternshipsCareer Preparation
Career preparation is a vital component of our program. All
art majors take a course entitled "Career Orientation for the Art
Major," which explores art career choices and addresses the
practical realities of making a living as an artist.
Guest artists in a variety of disciplines visit campus to share
their professional experiences with students through exhibits,
lectures, workshops and informal discussions. Additionally, student
groups visit the studios of artists and craftsmen such as those in
the Seagrove Pottery region and Penland School of Crafts.
Internships
We strongly encourage students to participate in Wingate's
Academic Internship program with museums, galleries and design
businesses. Students generally receive 3 academic credits and gain a
wealth of hands-on experience. Recent internships include:
- The Reynolda House Gallery, Winston-Salem, NC
- JAARS Center
- Hodges Taylor Gallery, Charlotte, NC
- Stewart Gallery, Waxhaw, NC
- Triple D Prepress, Shelby, NC
- Jeff Brown & Company, Monroe, NC
- Lowes (graphics department), Wilkesboro, NC
