SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION

Become a knowledgeable and effective communicator in a variety of contexts - from interpersonal to mass mediated. Our aim is to develop educated and productive citizens who will lead lives of significance in the global community. Our courses challenge you to critically examine the processes, strategies and results of diverse forms of communication. We provide a blend of conceptual and theoretical knowledge about how communication occurs, or fails to occur, with practical application of communication principles in speaking and writing. In addition to taking regular courses, you can be placed in an internship to gain practical experience in public relations, journalism and mass media to  supplement your classroom experiences.

 

We offer foundation courses in:

  • Basic communication concepts

  • Written communication

  • Oral communication

  • Visual communication

  • Communication analysis

Choose one or more of the following program emphases:         

  • Public Relations
  • Journalism and Mass Media
  • Rhetoric and Performance

Graduates of our program will be able to:

Demonstrate effective writing skills for mediated communication

Create and utilize effective visual messages

Effectively deliver oral presentations in a variety of contexts from interpersonal relationships to mass mediated situations

Critically analyze and evaluate messages from diverse sources

Utilize global perspectives of communication in the create of messages for an international audience

Understand and evaluate ethical issues in the communication process
