John Blizzard, baritone, teaches voice, diction, and voice pedagogy.
An active member of the
National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), he recently
served two terms as Mid-Atlantic Regional Governor. Last fall, Dr.
Blizzard conducted and sang in a Celebration of
Handel for the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of
Organists (AGO) and was a soloist in a production of Messiah
with the Charlotte Music Club. He will appear again as soloist in a
performance of The Seven Last Words of Christ by Dubois at
Charlotte's Covenant Presbyterian Church on April 2nd, and as
Elijah at Campbell University on April 18 and at Snyder
Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC on May 2nd. A Life Member of the American Choral Directors
Association (ACDA) and Pi Kappa Lambda (Music Honor Society), Dr. Blizzard's research interests include linguistics and
sacred music. He has conducted for North Carolina ACDA and the
Festival of Churches at Piccolo Spoleto, and has led international study groups to Vienna,
Berlin, Lisbon, Hong Kong, and Rome. He recently gave a presentation, Comparative
Liturgies: Reform Judaism and Protestant Christianity, as part
of the annual lecture series at the Jewish Community Center in
Charlotte and can be heard singing Russian song repertoire at http://www.belcantanti.com.

Ms. Polly Bostic

Polly Bostic has performed extensively as accompanist-collaborator with
vocalists and instrumentalists during her association with Wingate
University. She also teaches organ as well as private and class
piano. Mrs. Bostic studied piano with Mrs. Claude Almand at Stetson
University, Mrs. James McKinney and Dr. Robert Smith at Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary, and Dr. Max Lyall at Golden Gate
Baptist Theological Seminary. She also studied organ with Gladys Day
at Southwestern and Dr. Martha Asti, University Organist at Wingate
University.

Dr. Melinda Lein
Assistant Professor of

Melinda Lein, soprano,
teaches applied voice, music appreciation, and global influences on
music in the United States. She joins the Wingate faculty this
academic year
after completing her doctoral degree in voice, studying with Dr.
Rebecca Sherburn, and her master’s degree in musicology at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Lein is an active
recitalist who focuses on art song literature, most recently
presenting a lecture-recital on song settings of the poetry of
Christina Rossetti. Other performing credits include operatic and
oratorio roles, in addition to appearances as a concert soloist. In
the summer of 2009, just prior to her move to North Carolina, Dr.
Lein demonstrated her commitment to arts instruction in secondary as
well as higher education by serving as an instructor at the Missouri
Fine Arts Academy for high school students. She is an active member
of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the
College Music Society (CMS), and Sigma Alpha Iota. She recently performed
a solo lecture recital on settings of the poetry of Christina
Rossetti on
the Wingate University campus and will give a joint recital with
voice colleague Jessie Wright Martin in October 2010.

Dr. Jessie Wright Martin
Associate Professor of Voice

Jessie Wright Martin, mezzo-soprano, teaches applied voice and solo vocal literature
and is director of opera at Wingate University--last semester
directing Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. She is a teacher
of the Alexander Technique and spent the past several summers in Wooster, Ohio, at the Ohio Light Opera, where
she has performed in more than twenty-five productions. Dr. Martin can be
heard on numerous CD releases with Albany Records and Operetta
Archives, including Jacques Offenbach's Bluebeard and
Emmerich Kálmán's The Duchess of Chicago. She is an active
member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and performed with
Wingate colleagues John Blizzard and Polly Bostic for the Mid-Atlantic
Regional NATS Conference last April at Appalachian
State University in Boone, NC. Dr. Martin appeared as soloist
along with her Wingate University voice colleagues as
guests of the Union Symphony Orchestra in a Valentine's concert on
February 13. Also, she
performed a cabaret program with Opera Carolina in November and
covered the role of Mercedes for their March 2010 production of Carmen.

Dr. Dawn A. Perry
Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands

Prior to her appointment at Wingate University, Dr. Perry taught for
ten years in the public schools of North Carolina and Texas. Her
ensembles consistently received high ratings at festivals and hosted
such guest artists as Jack Stamp, Stanley Michalski, and “Slide”
Hampton. She has served as an adjudicator and clinician for
concert and marching festivals in both North Carolina and Virginia
and holds professional memberships in Music Educators National
Conference (MENC), National Band Association, College Band Directors
National Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and
Ensembles, Collegiate Music Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Kappa
Kappa Psi. Dr. Perry traveled to Bavaria through the Wingate
University "Wings"
program to perform on trombone in
several concerts last June.

Dr. Kenney Potter
Assistant Professor of Music & Director of Choral Activities

Prior to joining the music department at Wingate University, Dr.
Potter taught music in the Gaston County, NC school system. His
choirs enjoyed performances in the Kennedy Center, National
Cathedral, Riverside Church in New York City, and Carnegie Hall. He
is an active clinician and adjudicator in North Carolina, South
Carolina and Georgia. Recently, he has been a clinician for Guilford
County, Lutheridge Music Conference and Festival by the Sea Church
Music Conference. His compositions are published by Hinshaw Music
and Chorister's Guild. Dr. Potter also serves as a church musician
and is conductor of the Union Symphony Orchestra. He was commissioned by
the North Carolina Chapter of the American Choral Directors
Association (ACDA) to write an anthem for their fall conference in
2009, and he will conduct a choir from Wingate University on a tour
of South Africa at the end of May.
