In addition to his primary area of specialization, the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), Mark has a wide variety of teaching and research interests. He has recently published a monograph entitled Jeremiah, Zedekiah, and the Fall of Jerusalem (T & T Clark, 2005). The book, a revision of his doctoral dissertation, offers a literary and intertextual analysis of Jeremiah 37-40. Mark has also published articles on Josephus, Euripides' Bacchae , William Golding's Lord of the Flies, and the film Sling Blade. Mark has recently co-edited (with Patrick Gray) and contributed to two volumes on biblical pedagogy, published by the Society of Biblical Literature. The first is entitled Teaching the Bible: Practical Strategies for Classroom Instruction (2005) and is a collection of over 270 short articles offering ideas to promote active learning. The second is Teaching the Bible Through Popular Culture and the Arts (2007) and presents ideas on incorporating music, film, art, and literature into the classroom. Mark is also on the advisory board for the Society of Biblical Literature's online journal, The Forum; and he has served as the program director and President of the North Carolina Religious Studies Association. Mark and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Rachel and Zachary.
