Students with exceptional levels of scholarly achievement are honored by election to the Alpha Gamma Phi chapter of the Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology or the North Carolina Delta Chapter of Phi Sigma Tau International Honor Society in Philosophy.

Students capable of individual research are offered grants for summer research projects, working individually with one of the department's faculty members.
