OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Welcome to Wingate!  Whether you are a prospective student visiting our website for the first time or a current student, I hope you find everything you need to know about our strong academic programs on these pages.  When you click on the first button on the left-hand menu, “Undergraduate Studies,” you will find a complete listing of the all the majors and minors offered by Wingate with links to each academic department.  Each of these pages should answer many of your questions about each program. If you have suggestions for additional links you would like to see added, or suggestions about the navigability and currency of the information on these pages in general, please let us know.

About the Office of the VPAA:  The Vice President for Academic Affairs oversees matters relating not just to Wingate’s academic programs, but also to matters pertaining to faculty, the library, the registrar’s office, international studies, academic advising and support services, student research, and other special academic programs. The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the President and to the Executive Vice President, and helps steer the course for both short-term and long-range academic planning to ensure that Wingate continues to offer an outstanding academic program.

Current Developments in Wingate’s Academics: Wingate conducts an on-going review of the General Education Liberal Arts Core to ensure that it provides our students with a comprehensive and relevant overall educational foundation on which to build the specific knowledge of the major discipline.  Wingate is also implementing ways to strengthen creative and professional partnerships among its students, faculty, and staff.  We want to see more students taking advantage of one-on-one research projects with a faculty mentor, and to place even more students in professional internships.  In both cases, Wingate believes in enhancing classroom learning with practical experience.  In spring 2006, we held our first Undergraduate Research Symposium to highlight the many projects undertaken by students and faculty mentors.
