WelcomeThe minor in Women’s Studies is designed to allow
the student to explore the roles that women have played in society
as well as to examine the contributions that women have made to
scholarship within the Liberal Arts. Students will take a broad
range of courses within the program and may also pursue independent
research/experience on projects related to women in today’s society.
Women’s Studies students will have the opportunity to attend
academic conferences for and about women.
Coursework in Women’s Studies is designed to supplement the
material learned in more traditional college courses and to allow
students to focus attention on issues important to women’s lives
that are not addressed in their disciplinary courses. Students
taking Women’s Studies courses will learn the theoretical issues
related to discrimination against women by examining historical and
other
social forces that contributed to that discrimination. Course work
will also examine
how the women’s movements have served to change the landscape of
women’s
roles in society. In addition, students will learn more about
women’s mental and
physical health concerns.
