Statement from Dr. Randall: Equity and equality are two
concepts that have inspired my interest and research in Women's
Studies. As a sociologist, I am concerned about stratification's
effects. As a mother of four daughters, I am also attuned to and
concerned about societal views of gender. Feminism is a powerful
analytical perspective as well as a social movement.

Statement from Dr. Thomas: I was the first member of the
Wingate faculty to propose, get approval for, and then teach a
Women's Studies course, English 315, Women in Literature. I
try to offer this course at least once a year because I believe
every human being has the right to fulfill her/his potential
unimpeded by unfair stereotypes or limiting societal biases. I
am also committed to building female students' self-esteem because
societal attitudes can be very hard on them.
