Students will study the works and lives of prominent Argentine
people and visit Buenos Aires, the city that fostered them. Lovers
of short stories will find Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar in
many anthologies of world literature. Students will have the
opportunity to learn of the cultural and political icon, Eva “Evita”
Perón. They will also study and listen to traditional music sung by
the father of the tango, Carlos Gardel. In Buenos Aires the students
will visit the haunts of Borges and Gardel, tour the Casa Rosada
where Evita gave her speeches to the workers and see La Boca, the
colorful district where the tango was born. Leaving Buenos Aires,
students will visit the mountains, lakes and volcanoes of Argentina
in Bariloche, a town established by Swiss immigrants high in the
snow-covered Andes Mountains.
