France: Loire Valley
Loire Valley Châteaux and Biking Adventure
Surcharge $800
Dr. Chris Dahm
SM 235, T 5:15-6:05pm
During the 15th and 16th centuries the Loire Valley of France was
the playground of the royalty, where they built themselves castles
or châteaux. This part of France is a classic river valley
with rolling hills, and is perfect for a bicycle tour of about 18-24
miles each day from one château to another. While at Wingate this
class will study the culture and history of the Loire Valley,
including such people as Joan of Arc, Catherine de Medicis, Leonardo
da Vinci, and Honoré de Balzac. Because this is a bicycle tour, the
second half of the semester will include mandatory Saturday
training rides in order to build up the endurance to enjoy the
bicycling in France.
