The Music of Italy
Dr. John Blizzard
FA 204
Tuesday, 5:15-6:05 p.m.
Italia—Italy—has long been associated with beautiful music, from
instrumental music to high church anthems, from grand opera to
simple street musicians. “The Music of Italy” will examine the
country’s deep heritage in the development of music and its notation
through several centuries from antiquity to the present. To help
broaden our understanding, we will study the powerful influence of
the Vatican upon the more than one billion members of Roman
Catholicism, and see the long relationship of music to its worship.
Come visit the ancient Colosseum, dine on authentic Italian cuisine,
toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, and see why the “City of Seven
Hills” is called the Eternal City!
