COMMENCEMENT 2009 Undergraduate Graduation Check List

 

¨  Apply for Graduation (December 2008 or May 2009 or August 2009)!  May/August graduates are encouraged to apply by Oct. 29.  A degree audit will be mailed to you.

¨  Review audit to make sure all requirements are met.  (You may review your degree audit on-line through IRISLink.  Click on the "Degree Works" icon (graduation hat) in the upper right-hand corner) and then click on "Process New" for the most up-to-date information.

¨  Turn in substitution forms (if necessary).

¨  Attend Lyceums NOW!!!  (Remember you will not receive your diploma or degree until your Lyceum requirement is met!)

¨  Take your Senior/Cap & Gown pictures - Nov. 4 & 5  (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) - Ames Turnout (These are the only days that Senior/Cap & Gown pictures will be taken!!) 

¨  Pass all of your classes!

¨  Schedule your exit exam with your department chair (Dec. grads - by Nov. 14; May grads - by April 17)

¨  Pass your exit exam.

¨  Purchase your cap and gown from the Campus Bookstore (available after Spring Break 2009).  Caps and gowns can be purchased throughout the spring semester...don't wait until the last minute!  For more information, please contact Cindy Jordan at 704-233-8025 or jordan@wingate.edu.

¨  Attend the Graduation Fair (December Graduates: Nov. 20, 2008; May/August Graduates: Feb. 24-25, 2009) in Ames Turnout to prepare for graduation!  Representatives from various campus offices as well as a Herff Jones representative will be present to assist students as they prepare for graduation.  If you cannot attend the Graduation Fair and would like to order graduation announcements/class rings/etc., please visit the Herff Jones website:  www.herffjones.com/college.  Please contact Cindy Jordan in the Bookstore for information about your cap and gown - 704-233-8025 or jordan@wingate.edu.

¨  Office of Internships &Career Development will host this annual event on February 18th, 2009 from 4-6pm in LaVerne Banquet Hall. This 2-hour event will be open to both Wingate University juniors and seniors. Upperclassmen will have the opportunity to speak employers about job (full-time and part-time) and internship opportunities, as well as a chance to polish their professional communication/networking skills. The cost for the event for students is a meal swipe from the student’s ID card. Students without a meal plan will pay $5. Registration has begun online and students may continue to register through January 16, 2009. (Student Registration: http://www.wingate.edu/studentaffairs/careerdev/Students.aspx) A Resume CD will be given to each employer in attendance, and only students that attend the event will be able to submit their resume for the CD. The deadline for submitting a resume to be included in the Resume CD is January 16, 2009 as well. ¨  The online Senior Graduate surveys are now available and will be available until December 5th. Please expect an email from On-Line Course Survey Manager with your login and password information. This survey will only take a few moments of your time and your feedback will allow the Office of Internships & Career Development to help those in need of our services after graduation.

¨  Complete Student Loan Exit Counseling (if you have a student loan) - either in the Financial Aid Office or go to www.mapping-your-future.org by Nov. 1 (Dec. Grads) or April 1 (May Grads/August Grads).

¨  Mail your announcements to family and friends - Spring 2009.

¨  Donate to the Senior Gift!  More information will be available from the Senior Class President.

¨  Attend Baccalaureate on Thursday, April 23 – wear your cap and gown – line up at 9:00 a.m.

¨  R.S.V.P. for the Senior Brunch by May 1 to Heather Horne (hhorne@wingate.edu or 704-233-8120). (An invitation will be mailed closer to the date.)

¨  Clear your account with the Business Office (library fines, parking tickets, balance, etc.) prior to Monday, April 27.

¨  Attend Graduation Practice on Friday, May 8 after the Senior Brunch.

¨  AUGUST 2008 GRADS:  You must be registered and paid in full for your summer school classes prior to April 27 if you plan to participate in Commencement.

¨  Line up for Graduation on Saturday, May 9 between the Library and Wingate Baptist Church in your cap and gown at 8:00 a.m.  The Commencement ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m.  BA's and BFA's will line up on the Library side of the street.  BS's will line up on the Church side of the street.  Honor cords will be distributed on Commencement morning.  Remember, NO fraternity/sorority stoles, sashes, cords may be worn at Commencement (only Baccalaureate).

¨  Congratulate yourself on your achievements!!!

¨  Checkout of your room (if residential student).

¨  Watch your mail for Commencement proof from Chappell Photography.
