Fall 2009
Wingate 101 provides support to first-time students at Wingate
University as they experience academic, personal, social,
intellectual, physical and spiritual transitions to university life.
Objectives:
- To build a small support group
for students where they feel comfortable sharing ideas and
feelings and where they receive encouragement in their academic
and social activities.
- To introduce students to
university life through discussions of expectations,
opportunities, resources, and academic and community policies.
- To investigate issues faced by
university students, including but not limited to, topics such
as time management, goal development, vocational choice, and
identity development.
- To gain a more heightened
awareness of personal responsibility, self-motivation,
self-management, and self-discipline.
- To focus on campus and
community involvement and how it relates to a well-rounded
collegiate experience.
Class time:
All classes will meet from 9:30 – 10:15 am on Tuesdays during fall
semester.
IMPORTANT: There will be additional class meetings throughout
Orientation.
Please check the orientation schedule for those times. These are
required meetings.
Textbooks: The
Wingate University Catalogue and the Academic Planner (These will be
distributed
during Orientation Wingate 101 meetings.) Common reading articles
will be posted online.
