UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

SUMMER RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM

The Summer Research Grant program was implemented in 1994. The program assumes a 10-week summer research partnership with a faculty mentor and student researcher. Six student-faculty partnerships are funded each summer. The Faculty Development Committee directs the summer research grant application and approval process.

Students interested in participating in the summer research grant program should connect with a faculty member in their field of interest to develop a project proposal. Contact the Office of Special Programs (researchproject@wingate.edu) if you have an interest and need assistance connecting with a faculty mentor. Faculty members submit proposals in the fall and the committee awards grants in January. Key components of the application will include:

  • Project description (purpose)
  • Methodology (include outline/timetable)
  • Expectation of impact on faculty member’s teaching and research
  • Description of student involvement in research project, student credentials, and the anticipated impact on student learning
  • Bibliography or Context with evidentiary support
  • Download the Application form for the 2007 Summer Research Grants (must be submitted by faculty member)

Students participating in the summer program receive a stipend of $2,500 plus a housing allowance to live on-campus during the research period. Students may also apply to receive travel to present their research results at professional meetings and conferences.
