History Overview
Expand your horizons at Wingate University by discovering the world around you as a history major. Committed to global awareness, your studies will enable you to learn from the past and present to prepare for your future.

The history department prides itself on small classes which incorporate writing and speaking opportunities. Within this close-knit academic environment, you will study historical themes and human analytical skills. Our history professors have lived and written about specialty areas and are able to teach with first-hand experience.

Our goal is to teach you how to think, not what to think.

One way that we support this vision is to allow students academic opportunities beyond the classroom. Many students attend and participate in local and national history conferences. Students take a global perspectives class too.

The history program serves as pre-entrepreneurial training and prepares you for law school, diplomacy, seminary or a number of exciting careers within many work fields including areas of government, journalism, law and research.

Emphasis: World history

"In my freshmen year of college, I knew I wanted to be a history major when I took Dr. Hastings’ World Civilizations course. During my time in his class, he completely broke down all my beliefs and traditionally accepted views of history, religion, politics, etc. I learned that the world was infinitely more complex than I had ever believed. Due to this opening of my perceptions, I became a history major in order to immerse myself in the various cultures, political ideologies, economic theories, and histories of a world of which I had been previously oblivious.”
                                                - Wade Hampton Love, History Major ‘11
