Costa Rica Spanish Immersion Program 2016
If you’ve been looking for a way to make significant progress in your Spanish conversational skills and have the time of your life, look no further! A language immersion program in a Spanish-speaking country is one of the quickest and most effective ways you can improve your abilities to understand and be understood in Spanish. Not only will you be able to practice the language with native speakers, you will also get to experience one of the most diverse and beautiful countries in the world! Costa Rica is full of natural treasures like lush rain forests, unique volcanoes, hundreds of species of tropical birds, delicious fruits of all kinds and luxurious hot springs: all for you this coming summer. You will be taking classes at Intercultura Language School, grouped by your speaking ability in Spanish. The classes will be small and personalized, meeting four hours a day to make the most of your time in Heredia (a small town right outside the capital city San Jose).

May 15 - June 5, 2016

$2,320 for Spanish 103 + $420 for Spanish 107/207/307
This will include tuition for classes for four hours daily, home stay in a private home with a Costa Rican family, breakfast and dinner daily, cultural excursions (during the week and weekend), dance lessons, cooking classes, internet access, Costa Rican conversation partners and language lab access. Those signing up for Spanish 107, 207 or 307 as a Summer I class will need to add the reduced summer tuition fee.


Other costs not included: Airfare (around $900), Passport costs (about $165), International Health Insurance ($45), lunches ($5/day), exit tax ($29), baggage fees, spending money for shopping or other extra excursions/activities available and tips for excursions

You will receive 6 hours of SPAN 103 credit if you are enrolled in the spring 2016 class. Alternatively, you will receive 3 hours SPAN 107, SPAN 207 or SPAN 307 credit, if you qualify, upon approval of the English & Modern Languages Department. 

A 2.5 cumulative GPA and good disciplinary standing at Wingate University are required. US Passport is required for US citizens. For those participants that are not US citizens, check with the Costa Rican embassy for possible visa requirements.

WINGS Grants:

This program is eligible for a WINGS grant! If you have financial need, please apply as soon as possible as funds may not be available closer to the end of the year. Final deadline is February 1, 2016.

Payment Information: 
Payment is due with spring tuition for Spanish 103. Alternatively, a payment schedule can be set up through the Business Office for a small fee. Final payments are due by April 1, 2016. You cannot travel with the group unless you have paid in full. Refunds requested in writing by April 1, 2016 will be made to the extent recoverable by Wingate University.
