PLANNED GIVING

"To give away money is an easy matter and in any man's power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man's power nor an easy matter." - Aristotle

Message from the Director

Welcome to the Wingate Planned Giving website. Thank you for taking time out of your day to learn more about the wide array of choices available to those who desire to make long range financial plans. The goal of this site is to provide donors with the assistance they need to make charitable gifts, both current and deferred, to this university that they love. Wingate has been blessed through the years to have many faithful men and women join together in creating the "Society of 1896" which is our legacy society. We invite you to look around, learn more about gift planning, ask questions and then join us in The Society of 1896.

What is planned giving anyway?

This term is used by charities across the country, but it has no clearly defined or accepted definition. The term would imply that it is something given but it also would imply that it is something planned. I would define planned giving as a process of giving to charity where there has been thoughtful consideration given to what was wanted and needed for self, family and charity. Planned giving is an easy way to make a significant charitable gift while reducing taxes.

What happens if one dies without a will?

It may surprise you, but you do have a will. The state has written a will for all who neglect or refuse to make their own. When you die without a will (or die "intestate", as the law calls it), all your property will be distributed according to the laws of your state. You do not determine who gets your property- the inheritance statute does.

The "State's will" may not fit your wishes. It may even deny them. The law was written to do the most good for the most people. It may cause hardship for your loved ones. The law provides a rigid formula for distribution. It knows nothing about the personal needs and circumstances of your survivors. The law applies to everyone alike - good or bad, honest or deceitful. The law must anticipate and provide against every possible kind of human deceit.

Plan for your future today.
