Wingate student-athletes excel on and off the field.  The University ranks third among NCAA Division II Academic All-America-producing schools for having 36 Academic All-America® athletes since January 2000. Both the men's and women's basketball teams have made it to the Elite Eight in post-season play and Wingate University has received the South Atlantic Conference Athletic Excellence Award for the past four years. The men's swimming team placed sixth in the 2010 NCAA Division II national championship meet.

Our 19 NCAA Division II sports teams, intramural and campus recreation programs offer endless opportunities to get active.  Fans and student-athletes alike enjoy athletic venues such as the Charles A. Cannon Athletic Complex, Irwin Belk Stadium (Football & Lacrosse Field), Ron Christopher Stadium & Plyler Athletic Baseball Field, the WU Soccer Complex and WU Softball Complex.

The Campus Recreation office is dedicated to providing a comprehensive program that includes Intramural Sports, Fitness Activities, Sports Clubs and Special Events.
