PARENT FUND & PROJECTS

Wingate University prepares students for lives of significance through Career Development and Internships. This is a very important part of the collegiate experience and is a topic of paramount interest to parents of Wingate students.

For this reason, the Office of Career Development and the Office of Internships are excited to partner with the Parents Association to support Wingate students. The following is an outline of how the Parents Association can be involved in the formation and development of career and internships experiences at Wingate.

Support the Creation of a Career Development and Internship Resource Center.

With this partnership, Wingate would purchase computers, printed materials, access to career development websites and equipment. The Resource Center would create a specific space in which students could search for internships and employment opportunities, create resumes and cover letters, research occupations and any other topics to assist with developing their personal career paths.

Peer Career Mentors, students who have completed training with a professional staff member, would work in the space and be available for questions and personal assistance as needed. Professional staff members would follow up with students who have visited the center and need additional assistance. This space would be open for student use during regular office hours, and during after-hours twice a week.

The center could be used to conduct group workshops on various career development and internship topics for both class groups (including Wingate 101) and student organizations.

The following components are vital to the Resource Center's success:

  • marketing the new Resource Center and services offered
  • additional Peer Career Mentors to support volume of students and center hours
  • staff and student training to support career advising, internship and job market trends
  • networking with other Internship and Career Development offices to gain new perspectives and insight to bring back to the center.
