SACSCOC - Standard 8.1 Student Achievement
Wingate University publishes the below student achievement data to meet compliance Standard 8.1 of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and public disclosure obligations outlined in a related SACSCOC policy statement. Standard 8.1 requires Wingate to identify, evaluate, and publish goals and outcomes for student achievement appropriate to the institution’s mission, the nature of the students it serves, and the kinds of programs offered. The institution uses multiple measures to document student success. Additional comparative information can be found on the National Center for Education Statistics College Navigator. This published data is representative of the University's programs. Comparable, public-facing data is not available for all programs of study.
Identification of Measurements
Student success and achievement are central to the mission of Wingate University to “develop educated, ethical, and productive global citizens.” Wingate uses multiple measures to track undergraduate and graduate students and has established goals for each measure. These include first-to-second-year retention rates and six-year graduation rates for undergraduate students, passage rates for licensing examinations for undergraduate and graduate programs that require them, and graduate placement rates for undergraduate, professional, and graduate programs based on final destination surveys.

Graduation Rate
Source: The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
Wingate measures and evaluates graduation rates based on data reported to, and downloaded from, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. IPEDS calculates graduation rates for entering cohorts of first-time, full-time bachelor's degree-seeking undergraduate students at six years or 150% of program length. To analyze its performance on this outcome, Wingate uses a comparative group of 19 institutions and publishes dashboards that can isolate graduation rates based on demographics such as gender, race and ethnicity. Wingate University has established a goal of 54% for its 6-year graduation rate for first-time, full-time bachelor’s degree seeking undergraduate students. The goal is based on the 6-year median graduation rate for the 19 institutions in Wingate's comparative group. Wingate has met the goal two of the last six years.

First-Year Retention Rate
Source: The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
As a measurement of student achievement, the University measures and publishes the first-year retention rate of entering first-time, full-time bachelor-degree-seeking students who are reported as a cohort to IPEDS on the annual Fall Enrollment survey. Retention is defined as the percentage of first-time, full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking students who entered the institution the previous fall and then re-enrolled in the following fall semester. Wingate evaluates its performance against a group of 19 institutions provided to SACSCOC as a comparative group. Wingate University has established a goal of retaining 73% of first-time, full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking undergraduate students from their first to second year. Wingate has met the goal once out of the last six years.

*Institutions do not report the demographical make-up of first-time, first-year students who retain from the first to second year.
The below dashboards disaggregate, where possible, and compare data for the 6-year (150%) graduation rate and first-year retention of entering first-time, full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking students who are reported as a cohort to IPEDS on the annual Fall Enrollment survey. Wingate evaluates and compares its performance to a group of 19 institutions provided to SACSCOC as a comparative group. The number of students in some of the race/ethnicity groups are low, and variations in graduation rates can vary greatly based on the performance or outcome of only a few students. The University is analyzing its Pell grant, first generation, and athletic data as part of these efforts; however, the more criteria that are applied the smaller the number of students and the greater the variability in the graduation rates. Wingate is in the process of setting goals for disaggregated data.
150% Combined Transfer-Out and Graduation Rates
The University measures and evaluates its combined 6-year (150%) transfer-out and graduation rates of entering first-time, full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking students who are reported as a cohort to IPEDS on the annual Fall Enrollment survey. The transfer-out rate is defined as the percentage of those students in a cohort who did not graduate from Wingate, but instead transferred to another college or university within 6 years. In using data gathered and published as part of the IPEDS Data Feedback Report (DFR) for Wingate University, the below table shows the combined transfer-out and graduation rates compared to the 49 institutions in the DFR Comparison Group. NCES has compared Wingate to the same 49 institutions since 2015.
