Nursing
ABOUT NURSING
The undergraduate Nursing Program provides a broad-based arts and sciences curriculum that prepares students as generalists to enter the profession of nursing. After successfully completing the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam in order to obtain an RN license to practice nursing. Separate admission is required into the upper division program with application made during the spring semester of the sophomore year. Prerequisite courses required before admission into the program are taken during the first two undergraduate years. The nursing program only admits students each fall. The BSN Nursing Program is currently approved by the NC Board of Nursing to maintain 40 students. Entry into the program is very competitive.
Criteria considered for admission into the nursing program are:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- A minimum TEAS score of 68
- Grade above 80 in HETH 200
Qualified applications will then be weighted according to their individual TEAS scores. The student can take the TEAS up to two times at Wingate before the end of spring semester prior to entering nursing. Students who have taken the TEAS elsewhere can have their transcripts sent to Wingate through ATI. Students who earn less than a “C” grade in any course, but particularly BIO and/or CHEM courses, should contact their advisor and/or the nursing program director for guidance and possible change of major.
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Our students gain valuable hands-on experience by working with local hospitals. These include CHS-Union, Novant Matthews Medical Center, Novant Presbyterian Medical Center and CHS-Northeast.
