To gain experience in the field, many students undertake a professional internship, typically in the summer between their junior and senior year. Course requirements for the sociology major include, in addition to required coursework:

- Three marriage and family classes
- Two research methods classes
A degree in sociology is the first step toward dozens of rewarding careers. Recent Wingate sociology graduates have found employment in law enforcement, elementary school teaching, as a customer service agent for an international airline and as an activities director at a senior living center.
