Psychology/Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Wingate University offers high-achieving psychology majors an opportunity to secure an early pathway into the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program through the Psychology/CMHC Advantage pathway.
Designed for students who are passionate about mental health, counseling, and helping others, this selective program provides early access to professional development opportunities, faculty mentorship, and a direct pathway into Wingate’s graduate counseling program.
Students admitted to the pathway benefit from:
- A guaranteed seat in Wingate’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program upon successful completion of pathway requirements
- $5,000 Graduate Advantage scholarship applied towards CMHC tuition
- Early engagement with CMHC faculty, staff, and graduate students

Eligibility Requirements
First-Time Freshmen:
- Be admitted to Wingate University as a Psychology major
- Enroll as a traditional on-campus undergraduate student
- Meet at least two of the following criteria:
- 3.4 unweighted high school GPA
- 3.6 weighted high school GPA
- SAT score of 1100 or ACT composite score of 22
Transfer Students:
- Be admitted to Wingate University as a psychology major
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative college GPA
Maintaining Eligibility
To progress into the CMHC graduate program, students must:
- Be on track to graduate with an undergraduate degree majoring in Psychology
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Earn no grades of D or F in any course
- Successfully complete an interview with CMHC faculty in Spring of junior year
Admission Process
No separate application is required. Eligible students will be notified of their qualification upon receipt of their undergraduate application.
Admission is selective and space is limited to 30 students per entering class. Spring enrollment will be considered as capacity allows. Seats are offered on a rolling basis and secured following submission of the enrollment deposit as space is available. Once enrolled, students must maintain all requirements, including a successful interview, to matriculate to the CMHC program.
