The "most bang for the buck" in Economic Expansion

Since the construction of the Monroe Bypass, there has been community speculation on what will be built on the vacant land around it. While many acres are turning into residential neighborhoods, other properties may be used for business. One consideration is how a new business or industry would interact with the existing economic structure.

Economic Impact Analysis & Council on Aging

In spring of 2021, students in Wingate’s Economic Impact Analysis class partnered with staff at the Council on Aging in Union County. This non-profit organization helps seniors ease the problems associated with aging and remain in their homes.
 

Impact of Job Cuts in Area's Largest Industries

Job losses can spike during a pandemic. While the US unemployment rate has fallen since the 2020 peak, questions remain. In a simulation of economic impact, ECON 412 students researched the biggest employers in Union and Mecklenburg Counties and examined the extent to which the counties could be impacted if these firms undertook extensive job cuts.
