Each fall and spring, the campus celebrates the accomplishments of its graduating students. If you’re graduating, we invite you, your family and friends to take part in this milestone celebration.
FALL COMMENCEMENT 2020
Four small ceremonies, with graduates grouped by departments/areas, will be held on Saturday, October 31, on Wingate’s Academic Quad. Tentative start times for ceremonies are 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
- Ceremonies will last roughly an hour each.
- Graduates will officially walk across the stage, pose for photos.
- Graduates are welcome to bring up to four guests.
- Our goal is to offer access to campus while limiting contact with current students and avoiding the creation of crowded settings that make social distancing difficult.
Graduates will receive additional information via email and will need to RSVP and let us know how many guests to expect (0-4).
Face coverings will be required for the duration of the time on campus for everyone.
We are in conversation with local health officials about allowing graduates to walk across the stage without a face covering for photos. Stay tuned for details.
Graduates will be seated 6 feet apart. Guests will be seated in groups of four, with each group of four chairs set up 6 feet apart.
Between ceremonies, the stage and seating areas will be reset and high-touch surfaces disinfected.
Quad entrance and exit points will be designated, as will parking lots for each ceremony. Parking will be limited and may be remote.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be canceled, since indoor events are considered to be more high-risk for infection spread. If the weather forecast is not favorable, an announcement about cancellation will be made by noon on Friday, October 30.
If we experience increased COVID case counts on Wingate’s campus or in the greater community, we may need to cancel the event. Our goal is to be able to honor your achievements with this special event, but your health and safety and that of our community will remain our top priority.
Graduates, please watch your email next week for more information. We look forward to seeing you in late October!
