About Me

I became an archivist because I love history and want to help people access the records that share and preserve our past. My interest in history began in high school where I had an excellent AP U.S. History teacher who really made studying the past interesting…not just memorizing names and dates. In college, I realized I didn’t want to teach but still wanted to educate and began studying Public History. Through my work in museums and archives, I have been fortunate to find a career that combines my love of history and my interest in public education.

In September 2014, I joined the Jesse Helms Center as the Archives Director and Curator. Previously, I worked at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. where I was a Supervisor for a joint digitization project with and helped produce over 30 million digital images for online research. Additionally, I worked at the State Archives of North Carolina and for the North Carolina History Project in Raleigh, NC.

My wife and I are happy to be back in NC, and we recently welcomed a new baby girl into our lives. I’m excited to be a part of the Wingate community.
