What was your first impression of Wingate?
I had gone to school at Temple University in Philadelphia and The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Wingate seemed small and rural.
Why Wingate?
Wingate has a beautiful campus. It gives you the feel of a rural area, but now has the amenities of being close to cities like Monroe and Charlotte, which is only 30 minutes with the bypass.
Advice for the college search process?
I would encourage them to visit the campus of the colleges they are thinking about attending. They may think they know where they want to attend, but the feel of the school is so important.

Community, diverse, historic.
Advice for incoming freshmen?
I would really encourage them to get involved and find their place on campus. Wingate has so many different opportunities for students to get involved they just need to find the right fit!

What was your first impression of Wingate?
It was home. From the time I step foot on campus I felt comfortable and at ease.

Advice for the college search process?
Visit each school that you are interested in. Seeing a school on a website is much different than being physically on the campus. It's what made the difference for me!

Advice for an international student?
Seek out financial aid opportunities, especially for international students. Students who can't complete FAFSA can be reviewed for additional financial aid.

What was your first impression of Wingate?
Everyone I met was so kind and showed how they truly cared for the students to be successful.
Why Wingate?
So a student can have many experiences to grow professionally by having networking opportunities as well as personable connections with faculty and staff.
Advice for the college search process?
Keep an open mind and do research on how different colleges and universities will help you reach your goals.

Advice for a transfer student?
Coming in as a transfer student can be intimidating but I would encourage everyone to get involved with on-campus clubs and organizations to meet new people who share the same interests as you!
What is your favorite place on campus?
Outside on the Stegall lawn looking at the pond fountain.

What was your first impression of Wingate?
Comfortable. When I was born I was put into a Wingate onesie and I imagine it was the comfiest thing ever. That then was elevated when I toured campus as a senior in high school, I still remember walking around campus and just feeling at home.
Why Wingate?
Opportunity. The Faculty and Staff here are incredible aids throughout your time. They can help you with finding what you truly want to do through campus jobs, internships and networking. They want to set you up for success after you leave Wingate and they do that by being supportive and involved with you throughout your time here.
Advice for the college search process?
Tour the campus. You won't know if you will truly enjoy your time at the school until you walk around on tour and picture yourself studying in their library, eating in their cafeteria, working out in the gym, etc. That will tell you which school will be your home away from home.

Beautiful, lively, charming.
Advice for incoming freshmen?
Go do it just like Nike says. Join that club, take that class, email that professor. Whatever it is, just do it. The goal of college is that students can grow into who they are meant to be and getting out of your comfort zone is a great way to do just that.
What is your favorite place on campus?
The cafeteria (minus the salad bar).

What was your first impression of Wingate?
I knew when I stepped onto campus for the first time this was the place for me. I loved how beautiful the campus was, but more importantly, I loved how welcomed I felt.
Why Wingate?
A student should choose Wingate not only for the outcomes (career opportunities, but for the experience. Our small class sizes allow students to connect with professors directly and engage with peers in the classroom setting. Outside of the classroom, students can hold on-campus jobs, leadership roles, and actively pursue passion projects through research or clubs.
Advice for the college search process?
During your college search process I encourage you to visit all the schools you are interested in and to really use your admissions counselor. Reach out to us, ask us questions, let us help you during this decision process. We're rooting for you to choose the college that best fits you!

Advice for incoming freshmen?
As cliché as it sounds, my advice is to get involved...join a club, sorority/fraternity or team sport. Choose something you are interested in or want to learn more about. Here you will meet your community of friends and peers that truly do make your experience at Wingate wonderful.
What is your favorite place on campus?
The Quad!

What was your first impression of Wingate?
Where is that? Even when I am originally from Charlotte, which is 35 minutes away!
Why Wingate?
There are so many reasons a student should choose Wingate! If I had to pick one, I would say Wingate's investment in every student's growth and success regardless of race, ethnicity, financial status, etc. We want students to be successful academically, socially and emotionally. We help them do that by equipping them with resources from the time they are interested in Wingate until they graduate.
Advice for the college search process?
Think about the things that are important to YOU for a college to have! You are the one who will be going there. The schools in which your friends, classmates or family are interested in may be great for them, but they might not be the right fit for you.

Advice for incoming freshmen?
Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone! That's where you'll grow. If you think something sound interesting, try it out! The worst thing that'll happen is that you won't like it, and you can try something else.

The picnic tables outside Starbucks on a cloudy day.
