As you begin your journey as a Bulldog there are several programs geared toward incoming freshmen to help establish a foundation for you.
Bulldog Beginnings
Aug. 14 - 17
Bulldog Beginnings is a four-day extended orientation program designed to help you acclimate to campus life and adjust to being a college student. Bulldog Beginnings starts on move-in day and lasts until the first day of class (Aug. 14 - 17). You’ll meet your orientation group, be led through the week by a Bulldog Guide, learn about campus resources, and connect with your peers! Bulldog Beginnings is required for all incoming students.
BASE
Building and Supporting Excellence
July 11 - Aug. 5
Designed to build a foundation for academic excellence, BASE begins with a four-week summer program (July 11 - Aug. 5) and continues to offer support with programming throughout the academic year. Housing, meals, for-credit classes and fun activities during the summer are free of charge. As a BASE participant, you’ll be housed together in Northeast, the University’s newest residence hall. BIOS
Biology Intensive Orientation Seminar
Aug. 9 - 13
The Biology Intensive Orientation Seminar (BIOS) is a week-long enrichment program designed to enhance student preparedness and investment in the biological sciences. You’ll spend the week before classes beginning to develop classroom and laboratory skills that will acclimate you to collegiate-level work. You’ll get a chance to explore careers within the biological sciences and spend the week collecting clues, solving problems and performing experiments to try to contain a fictitious disease outbreak on campus. The BIOS Program is for students who have already decided to major in biology. Eligible students will receive an email invitation by June 15. First-Gen Bulldog Bridge Program
Beginning Aug. 5
Are you the first in your family to pursue a four-year degree? First-Gen Bulldogs, which kicks off with a bridge program, will support you and your family as you navigate all the processes of becoming a successful student. You’ll come to campus early (Aug. 5) and receive an in-depth orientation to college life. You’ll learn about available resources, gain a sense of belonging and build community through residence-hall activities. You’ll also be automatically enrolled in the first-gen peer-mentor program. Honors Program
Self-Nominate by late Fall
Wingate’s successful honors program is transitioning to an Honors College and has invited a small group of incoming students to take part in a pilot first-year honors experience. If you were not part of that group, you can still nominate yourself for the Honors Program at the end of your first semester. Honors at Wingate offers small, discussion-based classes, travel opportunities that align with coursework, research projects with faculty mentors, social gatherings and events with a diverse, inclusive group of high-potential peers and more.
