Occupational Therapy Advantage
What are the benefits?

- Preferential consideration to qualified applicants who earn their baccalaureate degree from Wingate
To qualify for the Occupational Therapy Advantage Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Complete a four-year baccalaureate degree at Wingate
- At least a 3.0 overall Grade Point Average (GPA) in all coursework
- At least a 3.0 GPA in all prerequisite coursework
- A grade of C or better in all prerequisite coursework
- Complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) within the past 5 years
- Three letters of recommendation; at least one from an occupational therapist and one from a professor/advisor
- Complete a minimum of 40 hours of clinical observation with an occupational therapist in at least two practice settings with different aged clients
- Participation in the Pre-Occupational Therapy Professional Club is also strongly recommended as this allows undergraduate students to stay connected with the OTD program
- A completed application submitted through OTCAS
To continue enrollment in the program and to be accepted to the professional phase of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, you must meet/maintain the following criteria:
- Maintain a minimum prerequisite GPA of a 3.0 or higher.
- Active involvement with the Pre-Occupational Therapy club.
- Successful completion of an interview.
- Complete a criminal background check.

"My experiences in Wingate's OTD program have given me the skills I need to be a confident entry-level occupational therapist. Throughout the program, I have learned a great deal about the value of reflection in developing clinical reasoning and leadership skills. As someone who values leadership, I found opportunities to be a leader among my peers and within our community here at Wingate throughout my time in the program. I have also had the opportunity to enhance my skills as a scholarly writer and evidence-based practitioner by conducting a research study. I was even able to submit a manuscript for publication with the help of our program director, Dr. Melissa Sweetman, PhD, OTD, OTR/L, CLA.
