Management Degree Program

ABOUT MANAGEMENT

Our management program builds on a core business curriculum. Students learn principles of accounting, business, economics, finance and marketing in addition to management. When they graduate, they have a thorough understanding of how to make organizations work efficiently and effectively.

The management major doesn’t focus on just one or two areas. Students learn about the challenges and requirements of many functions within organizations.

This program emphasizes:

• Organizational behavior
• Production management
• Strategic management

Courses incorporate hands-on projects for real companies. In the Finance Lab, you solve problems through case studies and simulations. In fact, all upper-level courses are taught in the lab using the latest software tools. Summer research grants pay you to work with a faculty member on your own projects. W’International travel seminars introduce you to new cultures and experiences that can build your understanding of international business.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Entrepreneurs, small-business owners and multinational corporations all rely on effective management techniques to stay afloat. A business management degree prepares our majors with those skills.

Managing People 

Leaders who motivate employees and inspire excellence are an asset to companies. A management degree prepares you to effectively head departments in any organization.

Graduates also can step into roles as human resources staff or corporate recruiters. Understanding what employers want and employees need, they can find and attract top talent. Management majors have the financial know-how to choose the best deals for insurance and other employee benefits, too.

Managing Communities

Urban planning requires organizational, logistical and communication skills. Management students have the know-how to take charge of city projects or assume community development roles. They can also oversee local recreation programs, parks and other such initiatives.

Companies need people who can handle money, tracking what goes out and what comes in. Smart financial managers can help their employers cut costs and increase profits by making sound business decisions.

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Management majors at Wingate earn either a BS or BA degree. The BA degree requires intermediate second-language courses, while the BS degree has more math or lab science credits. Students may also minor in management.

THE FOUR YEAR ACADEMIC PLANS ARE STANDARD TEMPLATES FOR HOW A DEGREE CAN BE COMPLETED IN EIGHT (8) CONSECUTIVE FALL & SPRING SEMESTERS.  THERE IS VARYING FLEXIBILITY IN THE EXACT COURSE SEQUENCE DEPENDING UPON INDIVIDUAL STUDENT CIRCUMSTANCES, MAJOR CURRICULUM AND COURSE AVAILABILITY.  STUDENTS SHOULD CONSULT WITH THEIR FACULTY ADVISOR FOR COURSE SEQUENCING, DEGREE PLANNING AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS.  STUDENTS ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR DEGREE PLANNING.
