Religious Studies Degree Program

ABOUT RELIGIOUS STUDIES

When you study religion, you build the knowledge and compassion to meaningfully engage with people from diverse spiritual and cultural backgrounds. The religious studies major prepares you for a variety of careers including: graduate school, ministry, missions, or work at a non-profit organization. Additionally, engaging in religious studies also provides a strong foundation for family life, civic engagement, and professional achievement.

Religious Studies focuses on four content areas:

  • Biblical studies
  • Historical studies
  • Philosophical studies
  • Theological studies

Students also choose electives from the religion and philosophy offerings, allowing you to tailor your degree to your interests and goals. You may specialize in a content area or explore a range of topics.

OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

In addition to our classes, we offer opportunities to further your education,
gain valuable practical and pastoral skills, and prepare for a career. Summer research grants enable students to work closely with faculty members on research projects. Internships and directed studies with faculty members, local churches, and local non-profit organizations give students valuable experiences and skills beyond classroom learning.

My experience

Austin Greeson

“Because of the smallness and closeness at Wingate, it allowed me to have a bigger impact and not get lost in the chaos of the numbers. It showed me I could have an impact on others around me in a big way. The Caleb and Lorene Barnhardt Family Scholarship gave me the opportunity to be challenged and motivated by dedicated professors. With the support of this scholarship and encouragement from my professors I discovered my passion for helping others.”
