Wingate Research Opportunities

Wingate students have the rare opportunity to conduct biology research as undergraduates, working alongside seasoned scientists. Faculty members bring students in to assist with their ongoing projects in these areas:

  • Bird communication and animal behavior
  • Biological control of insects
  • Fertility and pregnancy in domestic animals
  • Programmed cell death
  • Stress and academic performance

Other projects involve research into:

  • Biotechnology
  • Cancer cell biology
  • Environmental microbiology
  • Genetic markers
  • Muscle physiology
  • Plant biology

We also encourage students to seek summer research opportunities and internships. Many biology majors have presented their findings at state, regional and national meetings.

Wingate promotes the advancement of women in the sciences. Through the GlaxoSmithKline Women in Science Scholars program, rising sophomore students can qualify for GSK employee mentorship, unique research opportunities and scholarship funds.
