Education programs of study
Wingate University offers an add-on licensure program for school administration. Our add-on licensure for school administration is designed to prepare teachers who hold a master’s degree in education and a North Carolina “M” license to become principals.
Wingate University offers two master’s level programs for Elementary Education teachers. The Master of Arts in Teaching degree is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree in any content area but who do not hold a teaching license. The Master of Arts in Education in Elementary Education provides advanced study for Elementary Education teachers who already have an initial licensure.
The Doctor of Education in Higher Education Executive Leadership program is designed for current teachers and administrators who want to become community college, four year college, and university executives and leaders.
The oldest of the graduate degree programs, Wingate University serves students who are pursuing advanced degrees in teaching and leadership. Recognizing that the majority of our students are working adults, classes meet either on weekends or weeknights on the Wingate campus. Small group, discussion-focused classes ensure individual attention from faculty who are active within the profession.
If you’d like to start or complete your college career as an adult, our program is designed for you.
Our Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program is designed for current school administrators who want to become a school superintendent or central office administrator.
The Educational Studies major is non-licensure interdisciplinary major with an emphasis on educational foundations and liberal arts. It offers students an opportunity to pursue interests and careers related to education, but not necessarily K-12 teaching. Students have the option to take interdisciplinary coursework related to one of several concentrations (Humanities, Language and Literacy, Mathematics and Science),
Our courses take you beyond theory and into the classroom and onto the playing field. Your coursework prepares you to:
- Acquire scientific and theoretical concepts to teach physical education
- Teach fundamental motor skills
- Teach nutrition and how to prevent obesity
- Develop skills and competencies in multiple sport and leisure activities
The music education degree gives students the skills and expertise to effectively teach instrumental music, choral music and general music to grades K-12. You can focus on instrumental music education or vocal music education as you earn your degree.
The Thayer School of Education offers initial licensure programs that prepare our students to face the challenges of 21st-century education by providing a comprehensive and hands-on experiential approach as outlined in our Conceptual Framework. These programs include:
- Undergraduate programs in Elementary Education K-6, Middle Grades 6-9, Secondary Education 9-12
