Talents and Treasures: What Philanthropy Means to Me

Time: 4 p.m.
Location: Plyler-Griffin Recital Hall in the Batte Center
Description: Every year, Bulldogs near and far come together to give, serve and celebrate as part of One Day, One Dog. This year’s day of giving falls on Thursday, April 7, but we’ll kick off the week the Sunday before as members of our expert panel share what drew them to nonprofit work, how they decide which organizations to support with their time, talents and treasures, and how they fit philanthropy into their busy schedules.

The panel will include: 

  • Kacey Grantham – CEO, RoadtoHire
  • Suzanne Bostic Philemon ’09, ’14 – Executive Director, The Cannon Foundation
  • Anthony Daise ’02, ’11 – Senior Financial Consultant, Wells Fargo Bank

Note: Lyceum credit provided

Monday, April 4

Card-Writing to Soldiers 

Time: Noon – 3 p.m.
Location: Student Organization Suite (SOS) in the Crowder Welcome Center
Description: Turning Point USA is hosting card-writing to soldiers. Cards will benefit A Million Thanks. No advance registration required.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Location: LaVerne Banquet Hall
Description: Delta Sigma Phi is hosting a blood drive. Schedule your appointment on the Red Cross website. A free Red Cross t-shirt will be given to those who donate during April!

Wingate Elementary Lunch Buddies 

Time: 10:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Location: Wingate Elementary
Description: Join SNCAE to give teachers a break by supervising lunch. This is not the project for people who want to stand in the corner. You must interact, build connections and socialize with elementary students during this hands-on opportunity! Thirty-minute shifts begin at 10:25 a.m.; three to five volunteers are needed per shift. Sign up today.

Greek Philanthropy Fair

Time: 4–6 p.m.
Location: McGee Promenade
Description: Come hear how Greek organizations are supporting their philanthropies.

W’Infinity Math Club Estimation Contest

Time: 8–10 a.m. & 2–5 p.m.
Location: Huntley Commons in the Crowder Welcome Center 
Description: For $1, guess how many items are in each jar. Proceeds will help provide sets of TI-84 calculators for local schools. Guess correctly and win the prize in the jar!

Description: Find out how easy it is to Make a Difference in One Day, pick your passion and give to the area of campus that means the most to you!

Craft Packaging for Levine Children's Hospital 

Time: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Location: Hayes Pediatric and Technology Lab (Hayes 126 and 112)
Description: No sign-up needed. Come for as long as you are able! Supplies will be provided 

Crochet for Cancer

Time: 4–6 p.m.
Location: Student Organization Suite (SOS) in the Crowder Welcome Center
Description: The Hooked on Helping Crochet Club is hosting this event to benefit Crochet for Cancer, a nonprofit that donates handmade chemo caps to cancer patients coping with hair loss.

Location: Campus Lake Pavilion
Description: The Biology Club is hosting a Campus Lake Cleanup. No sign-up required. Meet at the Campus Lake Pavilion at 3 p.m. to grab gloves and a trash bag. Wear closed-toed shoes, and don’t forget to bring water!
