Wingate University Charlotte - MBA

MBA Overview

Wingate University's nationally accredited Charlotte MBA program has been advancing the careers of Charlotte, NC working professionals since 1991. Our part-time, evening, online/in-person MBA Program is based at Wingate University’s Ballantyne Campus, located in the Gibson Building in the heart of the Ballantyne Corporate Park.

The MBA program consists of 36 credits which includes 12 three-credit courses divided into core courses and concentration courses chosen from five innovative areas of concentration. Courses are available year-round during weekday evenings and combine superior academic quality, a personal and student-focused learning environment, and affordable tuition all with self-paced flexibility to allow you to complete the program within two years or longer based on your individual time frame.

We also offer an innovative one-semester prerequisite course that can accelerate your entry into the MBA program if you were not an undergraduate business major or need some of the business prerequisites.

Our extremely flexible real-world curriculum includes an optimal blend of functional mastery of core business disciplines along with specifically targeted expertise through the professional concentrations providing specific relevance to your career goals and professional interests.

MBA At-A-Glance

The program offers great flexibility for students to complete their MBA as quickly as needed as well as allowing students to take their time and take courses when ready.  The strongest point of the program was the instruction and copious amount of experience professors gained outside of academia that was passed along to students.  Concepts and techniques that were taught were better digested and easier to apply as it was catered around real world experiences.

FLEXIBILE PACE AND ENROLLMENT TERMS FOR WORKING PROFESSIONALS

You can pursue your MBA at your own pace--as fast as two years by taking two courses per semester,  or longer (up to 6 years) by taking fewer courses per semester as your individual goals dictate. Start the program during any semester, Fall (August), Spring (January) or Summer (May or July), and finish during any semester, it’s your choice.

Courses are available throughout the year during weekday evenings (Monday through Thursday from 6 - 8:45 p.m.) to meet the needs of working professionals continuing their education while holding full-time professional positions.

The Wingate MBA Program features a wide ranging curriculum and small class size that allow students to collaborate and engage with faculty. The program has helped improve my business acumen and I am now well positioned for a managerial role.

ONLINE, IN-PERSON OR BOTH
CUSTOMIZED “LIVE CLASS” COURSE DELIVERY

The Wingate MBA is customized based on student preference with course delivery options including live-online delivery, in-person delivery, and/or a combination of both. This allows you to consume your classes at the place of your choice: home, office or campus - it’s up to you.

Most MBA classes originate from the Wingate Ballantyne Campus starting at 6 p.m. on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night, with most students taking classes one or two nights per week. Each MBA class meets once per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, and twice per week during our two accelerated Summer Sessions.  A typical course load is one or two courses per semester.

All classes are taught “live” by the instructor from the classroom with students present while being simultaneously broadcast live via Zoom/Canvas to students who are not physically present in the classroom. Students will have the option to take classes via 100% live-online/remote delivery; or they may elect to attend classes in person at the Ballantyne Campus; or they may take a combination of both. In either case, whether you consume a course remotely or in-person, our program delivers a live class experience.

Students may move in and out of the different delivery modes from class meeting to class meeting as best fits their needs. For example, a student may take part in a Wednesday night class in-person one night, and then take part in the same class the following Wednesday night via online/remote delivery. Students do not have to choose a particular delivery mode in advance--students may customize their MBA experience based on the delivery mode that best suits them from day to day.

The choice of live-online and/or in-person delivery provides a best of both worlds customized format for the Wingate MBA Program and provides maximum flexibility and convenience for students. Whether live-online or in-person, the Wingate MBA is up close and personal with typical class sizes of around 20 students, where you will develop a professional network with relationships for life.

Please note, when Wingate University operates under normal conditions, F1 visa international students are required to follow the in-person class requirements to maintain their student visa status. Please email international@wingate.edu for further information.

On a scale of one to ten, this program is a definite ten. The specially oriented Business 500 prerequisites course for non-business majors gave me a head start like no other MBA program in the area, and I looked at them all.

Curriculum

The MBA program consists of 36 credits which includes 12 three-credit courses divided into two components: core courses (30 credits) and concentration courses chosen from five innovative areas of concentration (6 credits).

Core courses cover the complete range of business disciplines and serve as the general management foundation of the program (see course descriptions below).

Concentration courses provide added depth and relevance in specific areas of emphasis that connect to student career goals and professional interests (see list of concentrations below).  Students may choose to obtain more than one concentration either during or after completion of the program.

Our goal is to provide day-one value in your professional career with a real-world, practitioner-oriented curriculum, taught by faculty focused on your professional development in a student-centered environment.

The Wingate University MBA curriculum gives you a choice of five areas of concentration:

The program is very flexible and I was able to finish in two years by taking two classes per semester, although you can easily take more or less depending on what your schedule allows.  I chose the Project Management concentration and it provided excellent value and skills I have used in my current role as a project manager. I really enjoyed the intimate setting of the program.

BUSINESS PREREQUISITES REQUIREMENTS

While a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, it’s possible to join our program if you majored in a field other than business. If you were a business major as an undergraduate, you probably already have all of the needed prerequisites. If you don’t have an undergraduate business degree, our innovative one-semester Business 500 course satisfies all of the business prerequisites.

This fast-track one-semester course not only meets our MBA program’s prerequisites but expedites your entry into the MBA program. All you need to do is satisfy these required undergraduate prerequisites:

  • Principles of Financial Accounting
  • Principles of Managerial Accounting
  • Principles of Microeconomics
  • Principles of Macroeconomics
  • Principles of Management
  • Principles of Marketing
  • Principles of Finance
  • Business Statistics
  • Mathematics (College Algebra or Calculus)

Mastery of these required courses can be demonstrated with a final grade of “C” or better at another institution, or you can choose to take our BUS 500 course, which allows non-business majors to meet their undergraduate prerequisites within one semester.  Business 500 has four modules, so you only need to take the individual modules to satisfy the specific prerequisites you need.

If you would like us to review which of the business prerequisites you might need, please email us an unofficial undergraduate transcript and we will follow up with you to confirm.

Although BUS 500 is only offered in the Fall, it is possible for students to begin the MBA Program in the preceding Spring or Summer by taking certain MBA courses that are not prerequisite-based. These students then take the applicable modules of BUS 500 in the following Fall.

My overall experience was very positive. The small class is a plus, and the program is very career focused with real world applications and perspectives from industry professionals. The program also fit very well with my company tuition reimbursement program (allowing for tuition payment after each semester) and was certainly a very strong overall value.
